Day 1 - Meet on arrival at Boa Vista city airport, Roraima state. Transfer by car to Caracaraí city (2hr drive). Check in at hotel and take short drive of around 45 minutes to Viruá National Park. Target birds for the afternoon will be Crested Bobwhite, Green-tailed Jacamar, Brown-throated Parakeet, Cherrie's Antwren, Yapacana Antbird, Black-crested and Barred Antshrike, Black Manakin and Rufous-crowned Elaenia. Dinner and checklist.
Day 2, 3 and 4 - Early breakfast and all day birding at Viruá National Park. We will explore the forest trails searching for Gray-legged Tinamou, Crestless and Black Curassow, Sunbittern, Crested Eagle, Black Caracara, Gray-winged Trumpeter, Streak-throated Hermit, Violaceous Trogon, Yellow-billed and Bronzy Jacamar, Collared and Spotted Puffbird, Black-necked and Green Aracari, Buffon's Piculet, Golden-collared and Chestnut Woodpecker, Black-headed and Red-fan Parrot, Scarlet-shouldered Parrotlet, Dusky- throated and Mouse-colored Antshrike, Ferruginous-backed and Rufous-throated Antbird, Hellmayr's Antbird, Dusky Antbird, Willis's Antbird, Dot-winged Antwren, Guianan Warbling-Antbird, Chestnut- rumped Woodcreeper, Buff-throated Foliage-gleaner, Golden-headed and Yellow-crowned Manakin, Ruddy-tailed Flycatcher, Cinereous Mourner, Pink-throated Becard, Bare-necked and Purple-throated Fruitcrow, Spangle and Pompadour Cotinga Ochre-bellied Flycatcher, Helmeted Pygmy-Tyrant, Yellow- throated Flycatcher, Rufous-tailed Flatbill, Cayenne Jay, Moriche Oriole, Coraya Wren, Olive Oropendola, White-shouldered and Fulvous-crested Tanager. We also will be visiting the Campina (white-sand soil) and Campinaranas at the park and outside the park. Target birds will be Green-tailed Goldenthroat, Yapacana Antbird, Cherrie's and Spot-backed Antwren, Black Manakin, Black-faced Tanager, Chestnut-bellied and Large-billed Seed-Finch, White-naped and Wing-barred Seedeater and Plumbeous Euphonia. Night birding for Lesser and Least Nighthawk, White-tailed and Blackish Nightjar, Black-banded and Crested Owl and Tawny-bellied Screech-Owl. Dinner and checklist.
Day 5 - Early breakfast and birding in the morning around Caracaraí city looking for Hoatzin, Many-banded Aracari, Guianan Streaked-Antwren, Black-chinned and White-bellied Antbird, Imeri Warbling-Antbird, Zimmer's and Long-billed Woodcreeper, Speckled Spinetail, Wire-tailed Manakin, Capuchinbird, Spotted Tody-Flycatcher, Amazonian Black-Tyrant, Black-striped Sparrow, Red-capped Cardinal, Yellow-bellied Dacnis and Bicolored Conebill. After lunch we will check out of the hotel and transfer to Boa Vista city. After checking in at our hotel in Boa Vista, we will spend the rest of the day birding around the area. Target birds will be Blue-tailed Emerald, White-bellied Piculet, Spot-breasted Woodpecker, Green-rumped Parrotlet, Yellow-crowned Parrot, Rio Branco Antbird, Streak-headed Woodcreeper, Slate-headed Tody- Flycatcher, Pale-tipped Tyrannulet, Rio Branco Gnatcatcher, Yellow Oriole and Spectacled Thrush. Day 6 - After an early morning breakfast, we will drive to a special location to try to see the rare and endangered species, the Sun Parakeet. During the search for the incredible bird, we will also have a realistic chance to the Pale-eyed Pygmy-Tyrant among many others. We will return to Boa Vista city at the end of the day. Day 7 - After an early morning breakfast, we will drive direction to an incredible patch of forest near Mucajaí city (around 120 Km – 1:40 hours). We will spend the day around this area looking for the Solitary Eagle, Tufted Coquette, Gilded Barbet, Yellow-billed Aracari, Undulated Piculet, Caura Antbird and the beautiful Guianan Cock-of-the-rock. We will return to Boa Vista city at the end of the day. Dinner and checklist.
Day 8 - After breakfast, we will drive to north, passing through good areas of savanna. This habitat is good for species such as Double-striped Thick-knee, Crested Bobwhite, Pearl Kite, Bat and Aplomado Falcon, Vermilion Flycatcher, Bicolored Wren, Ashy-headed Greenlet, Gray and Ruddy-breasted Seedeater, Yellow Oriole, Orange-backed Troupial, Eastern Meadowlark and with luck we will find a Giant Anteater. By the side of the highway, there are Mauritia palm groves, the perfect habitat for Red-bellied Macaw, Point- tailed Palmcreeper and Sulphury Flycatcher. We also will visit areas of gallery forest looking for Finsch’s Euphonia, Rio Branco Antbird and the Hoary-throated Spinetail which only exist at this part of Brazil and Guyana. At the end of the day, we will drive to the Serra do Tepequem (3hr drive) looking for the Sharp- tailed Ibis. Dinner and checklist.
Day 9 - Early breakfast and all day birding at Serra do Tepequem. Target birds will be Sooty-capped Hermit, White-chested and Blue-tailed Emerald, Green-bellied Hummingbird, Pale-tailed Barbthroat, Brown Jacamar, Pied Puffbird, Undulated Piculet, Scarlet-shouldered and Tepui Parrotlet, Painted Parakeet, Violaceous Jay, Riverside Warbler, Moriche Oriole, Green Oropendola, Red-shouldered and Summer Tanager. Dinner and checklist.
Day 10 - Early breakfast and birding all day on the trails around Serra do Tepequem. We will be looking to catch up on any species we may have missed. Dinner and checklist.
Day 11 - This is the last day of the tour, but we should still have time in the morning to look for any species around Serra do Tepequem that we may not have caught up with so far. We will take the participants to the Boa Vista International airport according to the flight schedules of the group, where our tour ends.
