Famous for its lush forest and the high quality of its Birding, Intervales State Park is located about 270 km southwest of Sao Paulo and holds a large number of species, largely due to the altitudinal differences in the forest.

Highlights include Solitary Tinamou, Black-fronted Piping Guan, Mantled Hawk, Spot-winged Wood-Quail, Red-and-white Crake, Rusty-breasted Nunlet, Spot-billed and Saffron Toucanet, Helmeted Woodpecker, Pale‑browed Treehunter, Giant and White‑bearded Antshrike, Squamate Antbird, White-breasted Tapaculo, Swallow-tailed Cotinga, Sharpbill, Sao Paulo Tyrannulet, Buffy-fronted and Temminck’s Seedeater, Hooded Berryeater, Chestnut-back Tanager, and the Black-legged Dacnis.

Night excursions often prove to be very productive with great chances of seeing Least Pygmy-Owl, Mottled and Rusty-barred Owl and Long-trained Nightjar.
