Espírito Santo State

Day 1 - Arrival in Vitoria city at 11:30am. Drive around 20Km to Ouro Velho restaurant for lunch. After lunch we will drive to Aracruz city to visit the Augusto Ruschi Marine Biological Station to enjoy the hummingbirds feeders, with chances to see the Rufous-breasted and Minute Hermit, Black-throated Mango, Ruby-topaz Hummingbird, Blue-chinned Sapphire, Stripe-breasted Starthroat, Versicolour and Glittering-throated Emerald, White-chinned Sapphire and the amazing Red-legged Honeycreeper. Drive to Linhares city and check in at the VALE Natural Reserve hotel. Dinner and check list.

Day 2 and 3 - After an early morning breakfast we will spend the day birding on the roads of the VALE Natural Reserve. We will return to the hotel for lunch and dinner. This is the perfect place to look for the rare and endemic Red-billed Curassow and the Black-headed Berryeater. With almost 400 bird species recorded at the Reserve, some of the targets will be the Solitary Tinamou, East Brazilian Chachalaca, White-necked Hawk, Harpy Eagle, Pearly-breasted Cuckoo, Collared Trogon, Atlantic Woodpecker, Ringed and Cream-colored Woodpecker, Cryptic Forest-Falcon, Blue-winged Macaw, Ochre-marked and Maroon-faced Parakeet, Red-browed and Reichenow's Parrot, Plumbeous Antvireo, Sooretama SlatyAntshrike, Black-cheeked Gnateater, Red-headed and White-crowned Manakin, White-winged Cotinga, Olivaceous Flatbill, Cinereous Mourner, Cocoa Thrush, White-bellied and Silver-breasted Tanager, Yellow-green Grosbeak and Violaceus and Orange-bellied Euphonia. Day 4 - After an early morning breakfast, we will drive around 2 hours to Santa Teresa city and check in at the Vita Verde Lodge. The new targets will be the Frilled Coquette, Crescent-chested Puffbird, Spotbilled Toucanet, Yellow-eared Woodpecker, Salvadori's Antwren, White-bibbed Antbird, Black-billed Scythebill, Wied's Tyrant-Manakin, Buff-throated Purpletuft, Russet-winged Spadebill, Rufous-brown Solitaire and Gilt-edged Tanager Dinner and check list.

Day 5 - After an early morning breakfast, we will go birding around the Vita Verde Lodge looking for birds that we haven’t seen during the tour. After lunch, we will drive around 3 hours to Vargem Alta city to visit the Águia Branca Reserve, the best place to look for the Cherry-throated Tanager. From field data, presently only some 14 to 20 individuals are known and during this part of the tour this bird will be “The Target”, but we will be also looking for other beautiful bird as the Saffron and Spot-billed Toucanet, Giant Snipe, Golden-tailed Parrotlet, Rio de Janeiro Antbird, White-breasted Tapaculo, Spotted Bamboowren, Sharpbill, Pin-tailed Manakin, Black-tailed Flycatcher, Shrike-like Cotinga, Swallow-tailed Cotinga, Hooded Berryeater, Cinnamon- vented Piha, Greenish Tyrannulet, Brassy-breasted and Brown Tanager, Buffy-fronted and Temminck's Seedeater. At the end of the day, we check in at the Monte Verde Hotel. Dinner and check list.

Day 6 and 7 - During these days, we will keep looking for birds that we haven’t seen during the tour. We hope to see the Cherry-throated Tanager, but this is not an easy task. Dinner and check list.

Day 8 - After breakfast, we will look for birds that we haven’t seen. We will determine the time that we will drive back to Vitoria city airport based at the flight schedule of the participants.
