300 Km north of Cuiaba, this lovely family run lodge sits on the extreme south of the Amazon Basin in an area that has suffered with the expansion of sugar cane and soya bean industries.
This large fragment of forest is in the ecotone between the Cerrado and the Amazon and, therefore, the trees are significantly shorter, making it easier to observe canopy species, as well as a wide variety of Amazonian specialties.
Some highlights may include Crested Eagle, Zigzag Heron, Amazonian Pygmy-Owl, Dot-eared Coquette, Black-bellied Thorntail, Black-girdled Barbet, Spotted Puffbird, Gould’s Toucanet, Lettered Aracari, Cream-colored Woodpecker, Rufous-capped Nunlet, Large-billed Antwren, Tooth-billed wren, Pink-throated Becard, White-browed Purpletuft, Amazonian Umbrellabird, Blue-cheeked Jacamar, Point-tailed Palmcreeper, Snow-capped and Fiery-capped Manakin, Blue-necked and Dotted Tanager, Slaty-capped Shrike Vireo, the recently described Cryptic Forest-falcon, and the rare Cone-billed Tanager.
Night excursions often prove to be very productive with great chances of seeing Long-tailed Potoo, Blackish and Little Nightjar, Austral Screech-Owl, Spectacled and Black-banded Owl.
